It is true that with the current challenging environment no company or firm can survive without keeping their goods in warehouses for supply in future. Warehousing is a process of storing the goods of the firms in a commercial building called warehouses. These warehouses are used by the firms, industries, customers etc. which are basically situated in industrial are of the city or towns. It is one place where firms or industries keep their finished and raw goods for future use. Not only these warehouses stores the goods of the company but also performs certain other functions like maintain the records of the inventories, packaging of goods, publicity etc. which helps in the success and growth of a particular business.
By maintain the stock of goods for future use these warehouses also ensures price stability and does not allows any price hike in case of scarcity of goods in the markets. These days every big firms or industries have their own warehouses and are maintained by them. However, there are certain independent business units which are in the business of warehousing and established these kinds of warehouses for firms or industries. They charge rent for storing goods, ensuring the safety and quality of goods for a particular time. Some government firms also maintains warehouses for some food items such as rice, pulses etc. and ensures that prices of a particular commodity will not increase in a rapid pace in times of depression. These days' success and growth of a particular country is also determined by the amount of inventory it has stored in its warehouses.
On the other hand, distribution is the process of delivering the goods on time when required at a particular place. The goods should reach to the end user on time else it becomes worthless for the firms or business units. This is because just like we cannot wear woolen clothes during hot seasons similarly the goods becomes useless if it does not reaches to the end user to a particular period of time The process of distribution ensures that the goods of a particular firm and industry reaches to the end user on a specified period of time. For this they uses different modes of transport such as air, road, sea and rail transport so that they can transport the goods from firms warehouses to the markets so that they can be used by the end user during a specified period of time. Not only it deals with the quick and accurate delivery of goods on time but also make sure that the quality of the goods is not affected by any means of transportation. There are many independent business units which performs the function of distribution for small and big firms for a particular fee. They have their own transport systems which they use to transfer goods of a particular industry or firm from one place to another for another or from one state to another or from one country to another country. Some distribution business also performs the function of marketing for big firms like reliance etc.
As all business these days rely on quick, speedy and accurate delivery on time and meeting the promises on time to ensure customer satisfaction this process of warehousing and distribution plays a vital role in the success and growth of the company or firms or industries. Every year companies or firms spends huge amount of money on these two most important services without no business or firm or industry can survive. From all, we can now say that the warehousing and distribution has become an integral part of the success and growth of the business these days and no business, firms or industry can survive without having a proper functioning of these two services.
